Memberships & qualifications

Independently checked, not self-awarded

SNIPEF Member

SNIPEF membership isn’t automatic — it requires 12 months’ trading history, a majority-qualified workforce (over 51% graded operatives), a minimum of £2m public liability cover, background checks, and a technical inspection of actual work before approval. It’s independently checked competence, not a purchased badge.

SMAS Worksafe Accredited

SSIP is the umbrella scheme recognised by the Health & Safety Executive — SMAS Worksafe is one of its accredited member schemes, and because SSIP works on mutual recognition, our certificate is recognised by other schemes like CHAS and SafeContractor too. It’s an independently audited health & safety management system, UKAS-accredited to ISO 17020 — not a one-off form.

Level 4 Fire Risk Assessor

A formal, recognised fire risk assessment qualification — not a short course.

IFE Graduate Member (GIFireE)

Qualified Fire Door Inspector

The standards

The standards we work to

Water mist is a well-established, standards-backed technology. Here’s what governs it in Scotland.

BS 8458

The British Standard for residential and domestic water mist systems. BSI withdrew it in July 2025 in favour of BS EN 14972-17, but Scotland’s technical handbook for Standard 2.15 still cites it — so it remains the correct design standard here today.

BS 8489

The standard covering water mist systems for commercial and industrial premises.

BS 8663-1

The standard for water mist nozzles, cited alongside BS 8458 in the Scottish technical handbook for Standard 2.15.
